Tewkesbury Half Marathon Detailed Route Description

Start at Gloucester Road, near Aldi / Tewkesbury Leisure Centre (GL20 5SX)
Runners begin on Gloucester Road, just outside the Aldi Superstore (adjacent to Tewkesbury Leisure Centre). This provides a straight, traffic-managed area to settle into a rhythm from 0 km.
Heading South towards Tewkesbury Abbey

The course follows Gloucester Road past local shops and residential housing.
As the Abbey comes into view, runners continue toward the M5 motorway roundabout, with a left-hand turn just before reaching the roundabout — diverting them from open roads toward quieter, town-side lanes.

Northern Loop through Town and Countryside Lanes (~6–10 km)
After turning, the route takes runners through a loop of town streets and scenic rural lanes. Designed to showcase the town’s central, historic, and suburban areas, this section emphasizes local landmarks and community support.
Outbound & Return Sections (~10–17 km)

Runners venture out into surrounding areas with a mix of smooth asphalt and minor gradients.
Elevation gain/loss is modest: ≈ 109 feet (≈ 33 m) of ascent and descent each are spread across the course — equivalent to ≈ 35 m total climb and in-return descending

Let’s Do This

The terrain remains mild — mostly flat with brief, gentle undulations.

Approach Back Toward Town (km 17–20)
Defending runners wind back toward the town, reentering more populated areas as they near Tewkesbury High Street and central reserves.
Finish: Tewkesbury High Street / Gloucester Road (~km 20.5–21.1)
The final stretch brings runners down the High Street, rounding off with a finish near the original start zone on Gloucester Road. The layout offers good spectator access and wraps up at the Race Village area
